What is a credit score?

A credit score is a number calculated using the details of your credit file. It’s a simple representation of your credit and it’s dynamic – meaning it can change from month to month.

Scores can range from 0 to 1000, and the higher the score, the better. For convenience, we have grouped scores into 5 bands from very good to below average.

Why should I check my credit score?

Lenders such as banks, credit card companies, utilities, and telecommunications companies can use your score to assess the risk of lending money or extending your credit. Your score can also determine how much they lend you, as well as the interest rate. Knowing your score can help you make smarter financial decisions.
